Selecting the Right
Direct Thermal Label Media
Several
factors must be considered in order to select the
appropriate direct thermal material for your application.
Selecting the wrong product can lead to product failures or paying
too much for an over engineered product.
Factors
to consider when selecting include the environment and handling
conditions. Advancements in non-topcoated technology continues
to improve and is suited for more and more
applications. However, applications exposed to damp, oily
or greasy conditions almost always demand a premium topcoated
sheet. Premium topcoated materials are also recommended
for improved UV light, heat, rub and scratch resistance.

Fact Corner:
Direct thermal
technology -
Direct
thermal printing uses chemically treated, heat sensitive media that
blackens when it passes under the thermal printhead. Direct
thermal printers have no ink, toner or ribbon.
Direct
thermal technology is ideal for short term labeling applications.
Typical applications include retail weigh scale, case ready meats,
parcel tracking, patient identification, travel bag tags and shelf
marking to name a few.
