Transport & Logistics - Labels to Go!
Despite the
economic downturn, Transport and Logistics segment remains the
largest (by volume) user of Variable Information Printed (VIP)
labels. The T&L segment cuts across every industry and
generally involves the application of a barcode printed label onto
the outer packaging of goods to facilitate the tracking and tracing
of those items through storage and distribution. T&L
applications generally fall into either airline bag tags, parcel
distribution or pallet labeling. The primary attributes
provided by the labels include:

tracking and tracing
- Product/part
identification
- Branding
and promotion
- Added
functionality
Thermal transfer, direct thermal and laser are the
predominate VIP label products used in T&L label
applications. These systems offer easy print and apply, good
barcode readability, good adhesion to a variety of carton and
packaging materials, ability to combine human readable and barcode
onto one label and DT/TT printers are robust, portable and can
stand-alone or be networked.
