Bolder Brand Colors, Tougher Labels: ID Images Brings Expanded-Gamut UV Inkjet to Lebanon, Tennessee

For years, brands have had to choose. Digital printing gave them short runs, fast turns and no plates. Flexo with spot inks gave them exact brand colors. Getting both on one label meant compromise somewhere.

That choice just got a lot easier. At our Hickman Label facility in Lebanon, Tennessee, ID Images now runs True Orange and Blue inks alongside CMYK and white on a UV inkjet digital press. It’s a seven-color system built to hit the colors standard digital struggles with, and it’s ready for your next job.

Our Lebanon team has spent years helping brands get great labels quickly and easily. Now they’re taking digital color further than ever, and every ID Images customer can tap into it.

Why UV inkjet changes the game for digital labels

UV inkjet combines what brands love about digital with the toughness they used to get only from conventional printing. The press jets tiny drops of ink onto the label stock, and UV light cures them instantly into a hard, solid layer. No drying time, no plates, no compromise on durability. Here’s what that means for your labels.

  • Labels that stand up to real life. Cured UV ink resists water, chemicals, rubbing and fading, so labels look as good in the shower, the fridge or the warehouse as they did on the shelf on day one.
  • More materials to choose from. UV inkjet works across a wide range of papers and films, giving you room to pick the face stock that fits your product, not just the one that fits the press. With white ink in the mix, colors stay bright on clear and metallic films, too.
  • Built for short runs and fast changes. With no plates to make, you can run a few hundred labels for a test market, print several SKUs in one order, or update artwork without paying setup costs again.
  • Variable data built in. Lot codes, serial numbers, QR codes and versioned designs can change label to label in the same run.
  • Certified color, not best guesses. Our Lebanon press runs on the Screen Truepress Label 350UV SAI S platform, the first UV inkjet press system to earn Idealliance Digital Press System Certification. That certification measures color accuracy, uniformity and repeatability against global print standards.

At ID Images, we run several digital technologies across our North American facilities, and we match each job to the platform that suits it best. Our expanded-gamut UV inkjet press in Lebanon adds a powerful new option, especially when color and durability both matter.

True Orange and Blue: the colors CMYK can’t quite reach

Adding True Orange and Blue lifts our spot-color match rate from about 79% to 92%. That’s the share of industry-standard solid spot colors the press can reproduce within 3.0 Delta E (dE00), a tight tolerance where most people won’t see a difference side by side.

The colors that gain the most are the ones standard digital has always struggled with:

  • Vivid, juicy oranges, like a home improvement store orange
  • Deep, saturated blues, like a classic cola blue
  • Rich purples, like a fast-food taco purple
  • Bright, clean greens, like a craft coffee green

If your brand lives in any of those colors, this is the upgrade you’ve been waiting for.

Thinner ink, cleaner detail

Expanded gamut isn’t just about hitting more colors. It’s about printing them better.

With CMYK alone, a strong orange has to be built from heavy layers of magenta and yellow stacked together. With a dedicated orange ink, the press lays down one thinner layer to get there. Screen’s color-management software makes these choices automatically, rebuilding colors with Blue and Orange wherever that’s more efficient. Thinner layers mean cleaner detail, a lower-profile print surface and more efficient use of ink.

Why your labels might not match today

If your brand colors have ever looked different from one printer to the next, you’re not imagining it. As we’ve written before, not all digital print platforms are created equal. A four-color press simulates spot colors from CMYK and often falls short on tough shades. Expanded-gamut presses add inks like orange and blue to close that gap. The face stock matters too: the same file looks different on glossy white, kraft, clear film or metallic.

We’ve even seen brands reject an accurate spot-color match because they’d grown used to an off-color version from a previous printer. That’s why we measure color with Delta E instead of by eye, and why we recommend a printed sample whenever color is critical. A small sample charge up front can save a lot of time and reprints later.

Consistent from your first roll to every reorder

Matching your color once isn’t enough. It has to match next month and next year, too. Our certified press platform is tested for exactly that: accuracy, uniformity and repeatability across runs. Combine that with our prepress and color specialists, and your reorder looks like your first order, not a close cousin.

Who should take a closer look

Expanded-gamut UV inkjet shines wherever brand color and durability both matter:

  • Health, beauty and personal care: bold colors that hold up to water, oils and handling
  • Supplements and wellness: bright, fruit-forward palettes across many SKUs
  • Specialty food and beverage: short runs, seasonal flavors and labels that survive the cooler
  • Craft beer, wine and spirits: limited releases and vivid artwork without plate costs
  • Household and industrial products: chemical-resistant labels that keep their color

See it for yourself

The best way to judge color is to see it on your own artwork and material. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Request a sample printed with your brand colors on the stock you plan to use.
  1. Send us your toughest color, the orange, blue, purple or green that’s never looked quite right, and we’ll show you what’s possible now.
  1. Talk to your ID Images representative or distributor about moving a current job to our expanded-gamut press in Lebanon, Tennessee.
